Mathematics Faculty

Course: Our most able Year 10 students will complete this 1-year Level 1 course, sitting a combination of internal and external assessments. A scientific calculator and electronic device (laptop, or tablet) are required for this course

Course: This course is designed to enrich and widen the knowledge base of our most able Year 11 students. It includes both Level 2 and 3 standards and leads to L2 MTC or L2 MTS the following year. Some students may be invited to go directly from L1 MTR to L2 MTC or L2 MTS by the Head of Faculty. A scientific calculator and electronic device (laptop, or tablet) are required for this course.

Course: All students will complete two compulsory internal assessments and then go on to choose internal standards to a minimum credit total of 10. Students will then either select more internal standards or choose to study for external standards of their choice. In order to gain entrance to Level 2 mathematics in Year 12 students will need to have gained: At least 1 external standard for L2 MTH, both 90127 & 90128 for L2 MTC, and both 91035 and 91037 for L2 MTS. A scientific calculator and electronic device (laptop, or tablet) are required for this course.

  • Prerequisites: Year 12 students with both AS 90127 & 90128. Students from other year levels/courses by recommendation of Head of Faculty.

Course: This course will provide students with the necessary skills to progress the Level 3 calculus course. An appropriate selection of internal and external Level 2 standards will be offered. A scientific calculator and electronic device (laptop, or tablet) are required for this course.

  • Qualification: NCEA Level 2
  • Prerequisites: Year 12 students with both Level 1 achievement standards 91035 and 91037.

Course: This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in Year 11. This course will provide students with the necessary skills to progress the Level 3 Statistics course. An appropriate selection of Level 2 standards wil be offered. A scientific calculator and electronic device (laptop, or tablet) are required for this course.

  • Qualification: NCEA Level 2
  • Prerequisites: Year 12 students with 10 Level 1 Achievement Standard credits in mathematics including 1 external. Students from other year levels by recommendation of the Head of Faculty.

Course: This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in Year 11. An appropriate selection of Level 2 standards will be offered. This course will provide students with the necessary skills to progress the Level 3 general mathematics course. A Casio graphics calculator and an electronic device (laptop or tablet) are required for this course.

  • Qualification: NCEA Level 3
  • Prerequisites: 14 credits from L2 MTE, including 91261 and 91262, both at Merit or higher.

Course: This course is appropriate for students wishing to continue in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering or any field in which the analysis of mathematical relationships is an important tool. Topics including algebra, trigonometry and calculus are extended from Level 2 Mathematics and new ones such as complex numbers and differential equations are introduced. A Casio graphics calculator and an electronic device (laptop or tablet) are required for this course.

  • Prerequisites: 14 credits from L2MTS or L2MTH including 91264 and 91267.

Course: This course is appropriate for students wishing to continue in biological and social sciences, medicine, commerce and management or any field in which the collection, analysis and interpretation of quantitative data is important. It builds on Level 2 Mathematics with an emphasis on probability and statistics. A Casio graphics calculator and an electronic device (laptop or tablet) are required for this course.

  • Qualification: NCEA Level 3
  • Prerequisites: 14 credits from Level 2 including 91267, or by Head of Faculty recommendation

Course: The topics covered by this course are based on aspects of both statistics and algebra. This course gives students the opportunity to gain 14 credits at Level 3 from the approved university entry list. A Casio graphics calculator and an electronic device (laptop or tablet) are required for this course. Selected entry.
