Sports

Here at Long Bay College we love sport!

With over 80 different teams across 30 different codes, our school is proudly represented on the field, the track, the courts and in the pool at regional and national levels.

Getting involved in sport while at College is all about trying something new, having fun, building connections with others, improving your skills and growing confidence.  With so many options available, there is definitely a sport to suit students of all levels and abilities.

To find out more about the sports we offer (or to suggest a new one), see the friendly team in the Sport Office, located in the Fitness Centre (near the Gymnasium).

Sports Leadership

Students who are passionate about sport and developing opportunities for others in sport are encouraged to get involved in our Sports Council. Students of all ages are welcome. The group meets regularly with our Sports Prefects and collaborates on lots of great activities and events throughout the year.

Our Sports Prefects support sports camps, our annual sports awards and helps coordinate our full school Athletics Day. They also organise social sporting activities and are responsible for promoting sports clubs and activities at the school.

“I love being in the Sports Council because it is a great opportunity to get more students involved in sport and encourage them to try new things.”

Coaching

Long Bay College values support from the wider community, parents/caregivers and former students.

Without this ongoing support, sport at the College would not be as successful as it is.

For sport to run effectively, each team that steps onto the sporting arena needs to be supported by a coach and where possible a team manager. Many of these roles are filled by members of the wider community and teachers.

The Sports Office aims to support all volunteers by ensuring that they have the equipment they need, have access to appropriate training facilities and feel supported by the school.

By working with Harbour Sport opportunities are available for further training to develop effective coaches by attending coaching workshops run by experienced professionals. Where possible, coaching clinics will be made available both on and off site to allow Long Bay College coaches to develop their skills further. These clinics may be sport specific or generic depending on availability and the needs of the coaches.

If you are interested in supporting the College through coaching or managing a team, please contact a member of the Sports Office or email [email protected]
