We’re broadening our curriculum

Long Bay College has some exciting new curriculum innovations beginning in 2020. Year 9 and 10 students will engage in a range of projects that extend from the New Zealand Curriculum and include Coding, Mindfulness, Forensic Science, Pop Art, Rocketry, Sports Psychology and more.

Long Bay College’s Deputy Principal for Curriculum, Mr James Heneghan says, “We are really excited about the opportunities we are offering our junior students to develop their skills and foster their interests. We value our traditional curriculum subjects but believe learning can be broader and deeper.  As part of our College’s culture of care, we’re passionate about appealing to the unique needs of every individual.”

From Year 10, students will also access a broader range of optional subjects. In addition, curriculum changes will bring greater freedom to students at all year groups to move into subjects at any level. “We’ve designed a flexible and inclusive curriculum that will help everyone reach their full potential. Guidance and support from our subject teachers, the Careers Team and Atawhai leaders will ensure students select subjects where they grow their passions, build knowledge and thrive,” Mr Heneghan said.
