We wish our students all the very best with their NCEA results, which are expected to be released today (Thursday, January 21 2021). 2020 Dux and Proxime Accessit

A special congratulations to our Year 13 Prefect, Sanna Kalberer, who was announced the 2020 Dux at the Academic Awards on December 8, and also to Bella de Silva who was named our Proxime Accessit. A big congratulations goes to all of our award recipients for their academic successes. A link to photos will be emailed to all award recipients and their families on Wednesday, December 9.

Collect your 2020 Yearbook

On Wednesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 10, students are invited to the Students Centre at interval and lunchtimes to collect a very important piece of LBC memorabilia – the 2020 Yearbook! This 100 page book features highlights of what was a very different kind of year.

This year, we created a special cover for the Yearbook that references the strong connections of our school communty, despite the distance and isolation we all experienced with almost nine weeks of lockdown under COVID-19 alert levels 3 and 4. Many thanks to the students who took part in the cover photography shoot.

11 wins at Ballroom nationals

Congratulations to our student, Jack Lowe, who has amassed an amazing haul of NZ Ballroom Dancing top titles. Jack, and his dance partner Arwyn, competed in the New Zealand Ballroom Dance Championships recently and came away with 11 New Zealand titles. Eight of these were in youth events (16 years to 21) and three at adult level two (over 21). The pair even made it into the prestigious adult Latin final, placing sixth – just behind Brad and Brittany Coleman of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ fame!

Need new shoes for school or work?

Long Bay College has partnered with the Athlete’s Foot store in Albany and joined the store’s School Rewards Program. For every pair of shoes purchased, the store will donate $15 worth of sporting equipment to our school! This reward applies to the whole family, across the store’s range of quality school, sports, work and casual shoes. Mention Long Bay College when you shop at The Athlete’s Foot in Albany!

Kindness campaign

As part of our culture of care, Year 9 and 10 girls attended a special Atawhai assembly with a topic that was right on theme for 2020, ‘The Kindness Campaign’. The message was about the impact our words and actions can have on others, how to better support each other as women and build each other up. The girls watched a video and completed activities afterwards. The feedback about the assembly has been positive with the girls saying they found the content powerful and thought-provoking.

LBC students support our community

If you were in Browns Bay on the evening of November 20, you may have heard the awesome sounds of our musicians performing at the lighting of the Christmas tree event or have seen our dancers. Students also collected for our fundraising campaign on behalf of the charity we’re supporting ahead of this Christmas, Foster Hope. We congratulate our students for actively demonstrating our school value of Community.

Students invited to develop their intercultural skills this summer

Go global this summer! While travelling may not be an option right now, Long Bay College is proud to exclusively offer all students the chance to grow their global competencies in alternative ways, thanks to a partnership with AFS and Massey University. Students are invited to sign up to earn an NZ Global Competence Certificate by completing a short course in January 2021. Students will gain skills in cross-cultural communication and more. See the information here and contact our International Department. Mrs Jayne Jones: jjones@lbc.school.nz or Ms Zena Foyster: zfoyster@lbc.school.nz
